Stay Fit Without the Gym

The Holiday season is certainly a time of indulgence, but if you’re like me you are hitting the gym hard to try (key word) to compensate for all those Christmas treats. The problem is, sometimes you don’t really have time to drive all the way to the gym. Or sometimes maybe you just don’t feel like leaving the house. Or honestly, maybe you just don’t feel like paying for a gym membership. But, I’ve found that there are plenty of ways to get fit or stay fit without a gym.

Nike Training Club App
This is an awesome app that you can put on your phone or computer to use when you can’t make it to the gym. You can chose either a Strength, Endurance, or Mobility workout, each of which has a huge list of workouts you can pick from. Each workout says how long it is and the skill/intensity level so you can pick the right workout for you. The workouts are all timed and will tell you when to go and when to rest. They also have a video of someone doing each move so that you can ensure you’re doing everything correctly.

Blogilates
Blogilates is my go-to workout Youtube channel. Cassey is very energetic… like veryyy energetic. But her workouts are really great. What I love most about this channel is that most of Cassey’s videos are HIIT workouts, so the video itself is only 7 or 8 minutes long, but she tells you to do it 4 times. While I would definitely suggest doing what she says, this allows you to really tailor your workout to how much time you have. I also like doing 4 different 7-8 minute workouts instead of doing the same one 4 times sometimes. For instance, I’ll do a cardio one twice, and then do an ab video and an arm video.

Couch to 5k
If you’re trying to get in shape, try something like the Couch to 5k app. This app is great for beginners who are trying to get in shape or get into running. Running is always a great workout, and you can literally do it wherever you want. This app is a training program to help improve your endurance and train for a 5k.

Tone it Up
Another Youtube channel to find great workouts is Tone It Up. These girls have plenty of different workouts to fit your needs. I do feel like Blogilates workouts make me sweat more, but I like doing these sometimes too. While Cassey doesn’t use any equipment, these girls do incorporate things like weights, exercise balls, and other equipment into some of their workouts.

Yoga with Adriene
Yoga with Adriene is probably the channel I work out to most. I’m a huge believer in the benefits of yoga, but man oh man is it expensive. That’s why I love Adriene’s videos; they’re free and accessible any time I want them. She also has a huge variety of videos from strength, to weight loss, to stretching, to yoga for when you’re in a bad mood. She also does a 30 day challenge every year where she puts up a new video every day for 30 days. Each video is only 15-30 minutes long so they’re easy to keep up with. I did the challenge last year and I felt amazing after just a few days.

These are just a few different ways to stay fit without the gym. While some people might take this season of indulgence as an excuse to ignore exercise, you can instead use it as a way to jump-start healthy habits for the new year!
