I feel like I haven’t done a favorites in so long, but now I’m back in the game. I can’t believe its October already. I also can’t believe I’m officially finished with my dietetic internship! I finished my Enrichment Rotation (which I split into 2, 2 week rotations) earlier this week! Now all that’s left is a whole lot of studying… But I absolutely loved my last two rotation and I’m very grateful my internship has an Enrichment, because I think I really found what I want to do with both (food blogging & eating disorder treatment, odd mix, I know). Anyways, here are a few things I’ve been loving over the last few months.

Physician’s Formula Organic Wear CC Cream
I tried this CC cream after hearing Allana Davison talk about the BB cream all of the time. For some reason I had a hard time finding the BB cream, so I settled for this one. According to online reviews the formulas are pretty much the same. This is my new go-to foundation. Its so easy, I honestly feel like it works best blending with my hands. Its got decent coverage and keeps my surprisingly matte for a non-matte foundation. Physician’s Formula is a little more expensive than most drugstore brands, but this foundation is really great quality.

Health at Every Size
When I was interning at the eating disorder treatment center, my preceptor let me borrow this book. She said that reading this book really opened her eyes and made her totally rethink nutrition. The book is all about intuitive eating, body acceptance, and scientific evidence that diets don’t work. It really is a totally different view on nutrition, which you definitely need to have when counseling eating disorder patients. I think any dietitian would love this book, because it could definitely be applied to general weight loss counseling as well.

UrthBox
I recently bought a Groupon for a three month subscription to UrthBox. UrthBox sends you  6 organic, non-GMO snacks each month. I’ve gotten some really good snacks. My favorite are the different snack bars from smaller companies I’ve never heard of before. I also got a really delicious, organic Twizzler type snack, it was sooo good! Anyways if you want to find a way to try some new, healthy snacks, I’d definitely suggest trying out UrthBox.

Narcos
Most people who watch Narcos have probably already watched the new season, but if not, you need to get on that. The second season was sooo good, we watched it in about 4 days. And, bonus, I figured it would end after this season, but it seems like they set it up for a season 3!

Brain Dead
Ok I got hooked on this show after I watched a random episode with a friend. Before I tell you what its about I’ll say that it sounds really stupid, but hear me out. So the show focuses on characters on Capitol Hill, from both parties. It takes place in present day so campaigning is going on and all of that. But then a brain eating bug comes to DC and starts infecting people and making them more extreme and angry but no one believes the main character that this bug exists. Its kind of like a satire on politics and why people are so crazy these days. Its pretty funny but its also got some drama and twists in it. You can watch season 1 on Amazon Prime!

Anyways thats what I’ve been loving lately. I’m hoping to get some more recipe posts up soon now that I have a little more time on my hands. I’m sure I’ll want a break from studying to do some cooking and writing too!

 

 

February Favorites

As I’m writing this I’m sitting outside in the beautiful sunshine and its pretty hard to believe February is over and its getting warm already (not that I’m complaining). As I get older I’ve realized that I think I want it to be Spring all the time. I used to love the cold and thought I wanted to live somewhere colder, but now I think I’d be pretty happy somewhere that ranges between 50 and 85 degrees all the time. I don’t need four season. But I digress… the purpose of this post is to talk about what I’ve been loving in February, so here goes.

Favorite Meal: Spinach and Potato Soup
I love soup. I don’t care if its cold or warm outside, I just love it. For Christmas I got an immersion blender and I have definitely been optimizing that the past couple months. This month especially I’ve been making a pureed spinach and potato soup pretty much every week. I love having it for lunch or just as a side with dinner. It really hits the spot.

Favorite Skincare: Malin + Goetz Clarifying Clay Mask
For some reason the last couple months my skin has just not been happy with me. Mostly my forehead has just been so bumpy and I don’t know why. But I got this clarifying clay mask in my Birchbox in January and decided to give it a go. I instantly noticed a difference from the first time I used it. This mask has the consistency and feel of a clay mask, so it cleans your pores, it has pumice to get rid of dead skin, witch hazel to help with blemishes and excess oil, and then when you wash it off it has little bits that exfoliate. So basically its the only mask you’ll ever need. But like I said, I noticed a difference after just one use and after the second use a few days later my skin was basically completely cleared up.

Favorite Makeup Product: Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso
This is more of a rediscovery actually. I got this probably about a year ago when the Hourglass blushes were all the rage, and this was a good drugstore dupe. I loved in when I first got it too, but over time I just started using other things. With the weather getting warmer I’ve just been drawn to this again and I’ve officially fallen back in love. It’s such a beautiful, subtle color with just the right amount of shine in it.

Favorite Youtuber: Casey Neistat
This one is also a little bit of a rediscovery. I’ve always loved Casey’s vlogs, but recently I’ve also gotten my boyfriend into them and we’ve started watching them together every day. Casey is a daily vlogger, but he views every vlog as its own little movie, so the quality is always amazing and creative. He’s also hilarious and pretty inspirational.

Favorite Show: I’ll Have What Phil’s Having
Lately I’ve just been really into food shows, so I was flipping through Netflix in hopes of discovering something new and foodie. I’ll Have What Phil’s Having combines my two favorite things: food and travel. Phil travels to different places and learns about food and culture, while eating some really delicious food. I was hooked when I watched the Italy episode where most of it is spent in Florence (my favorite city in the world). Bonus: Phil is the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond so he’s pretty goofy and hilarious. Unfortunately there’s only about 5 or so episodes, but they’re definitely worth a watch.

I know this is a little different, but I think I’m going to start doing monthly favorites from now on. Being the lifestyle blog/youtube obsessed person that I am, I just love watching and reading people’s favorites, so I thought I’d do my own. I don’t want my favorites to focus on one specific food or product, or anything like that, I just want to talk about everything I’ve been enjoying this month.

Snack: Apples and almond butter
Since this is a food blog, I’ll start with food. My favorite snack this month is apples with almond butter. I go through phases with this snack, and right now I am very much into it. I get the big giant apples from Harris Teeter and drizzle some Trader Joes almond butter on them and it is so delicious and filling. The other day I was so full I couldn’t even finish it, so if you’re looking for a good afternoon snack.. this is it.

Meal: zoodles with turkey meatballs
My lovely grandmother got me a spiralizer a month or so ago and I’ve been using it non-stop every since. My favorite thing to make is zoodles (zucchini noodles) with marinara sauce and turkey meatballs. I must admit that I cheat majorly and use trader joes frozen turkey meatballs and their basil marinara sauce. But this meal is one of the easiest things you can fix at night and it is even more delicious than I thought it would be.

Scent: Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow
Since we’re now into the heart of Fall, I’m now into the heart of my candle phase. I love a good, sweet, fall candle, so I went to Bath & Body Works to pick up a few new ones. They have so many amazing scents, but my favorite right now is the Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow. It’s definitely a sweet scent, but those are the kind of scents I love. Also, since its Bath & Body Works it seriously fills up the whole house with deliciousness. 

Product: The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturizer
My favorite product for the last couple months has been The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisturizer. I never really used to moisturize my skin much because everything I used seemed to leave my face feeling gross and greasy. This moisturizer is more of a gel than a cream and it feels sooo good on the skin. It also sinks in a dries up as soon as you put it on, so it doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy at all.

Formally Essie Button, aka my favorite Youtuber. A friend introduced me to her channel about a year or so ago and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Estée just went through a bit of a re-branding and I personally think its working out really well for her. I love the new style of her website and videos and all of her pictures make me want to just go travel the world, go shopping, or redo the entire interior of my house.

TV Show: House of Cards
I finally gave in to the hype. My boyfriend and I tried watching this a while ago and just couldn’t get into it, but we finally decided to try it again. It was better than we expected, but still it was just kind of meh. Now we just started the second season and, holy crap its good. I’m now in the phase where I just want to go home and watch it all of the time.

Activity: The State Fair
For everyone in Raleigh, October is State Fair month. People come from all over the state to come to the fair and we are lucky enough to have it right in our backyard! While the fair is crowded and expensive, it also makes for the best people watching every and some amazing fried food. The fair is the one time each year I get fried oreos, aka the most amazing food ever. This year I also got a caramel apple that was dipped in caramel, rolled in marshmallows, dipped in chocolate, and then rolled in graham crackers. Yeah. I know I’m a nutrition student but you just have to indulge sometimes.
